Israel’s Defense Forces (IDF) have launched what military officials described as one of the most extensive bombardments on the Gaza Strip in recent months, with heavy strikes reported in Khan Younis and surrounding areas.
Witnesses in southern Gaza said explosions lit up the night sky as multiple air raids targeted densely populated zones. Local media described the bombardment as “unprecedented,” leaving parts of the city shrouded in smoke and debris.
An IDF spokesperson said the operation was aimed at what they called “terror infrastructure” in the area, though details of the targets remain unclear. The military described the strikes as “significant”, “the likes of which we haven’t seen in a long time, maybe ever.”
The escalation comes amid ongoing international appeals for restraint, as the humanitarian situation in Gaza continues to worsen. Emergency crews have reportedly struggled to reach some affected areas due to the intensity of the shelling.
Khan Younis, one of Gaza’s largest cities, has been at the center of recent clashes between Israeli forces and Palestinian groups, further heightening tensions in the already war-torn enclave.
