Ghana has been thrown into mourning following the tragic death of Defence Minister Dr. Omane Boamah and three others in a military helicopter crash near Obuasi, a mining town in the Ashanti Region, on Wednesday afternoon.

The Ghana Armed Forces confirmed the crash involved an Air Force helicopter en route from a security operation inspection. Eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud explosion before spotting smoke billowing from a wooded area near a local suburb of Kumasi.

According to reports reaching Amnewsworld, all four occupants on board perished in the crash. Among the victims were Dr. Omane Boamah, two military officers, and a senior advisor from the Defense Ministry. The identities of the other deceased have not yet been officially released.

Emergency response teams were swiftly deployed to the crash site, with a military investigation now underway to determine the cause of the fatal incident.

Dr. Boamah, a prominent figure in Ghanaian politics and governance, was appointed Minister of Defence in early 2025 and had previously served as Minister for Communications. His unexpected death marks a significant loss to the current administration.

The Presidency is expected to issue a formal statement within the hour. Security has been tightened around key government installations as the nation processes the shocking loss.

This is a developing story. Amnewsworld will provide updates as new information becomes available.
