The UEFA Champions League trophy touched down in Munich on Thursday, just two days before Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Milan face off in Saturday’s highly anticipated final. Adding a touch of prestige to the moment was Spanish football legend Andrés Iniesta, who personally delivered the silverware to the host city in partnership with official sponsor FedEx.
As part of the UEFA Champions Festival held at Olympiapark, the trophy was paraded during the “Walk of Champions” — a procession featuring local charities, community organisations, and FedEx employees and their families. The event set the tone for what is expected to be a monumental night in European football.
Iniesta, who famously captained FC Barcelona to a historic treble under the leadership of current PSG manager Luis Enrique in 2015, praised his former coach while addressing fans in Munich.
“Luis Enrique is a coach I love,” Iniesta said. “I love how he manages his teams, how he communicates, how he’s an incredible worker and a coach with enormous talent. I wish him all the best.”
Looking ahead to Saturday’s showdown, the veteran midfielder predicted a thrilling encounter between the French and Italian giants.
“When it comes to a final, it’s obviously a matter of working hard, but above all, enjoying it because the journey they’ve taken has been magnificent,” Iniesta remarked.
On Inter Milan, Iniesta acknowledged the club’s legacy: “It’s an historic team that has always had great players. Getting to a final is never an easy feat, and they are in a position to compete for the title and win it. It will be a great match in the end, and I hope everyone can enjoy it.”
The UEFA Champions League final — widely considered the most-watched club football match in the world — kicks off in Munich on Saturday at 21:00 Central Africa Time.
