Hundreds of Moscow students stepped back in time on Tuesday, donning vintage Soviet World War II uniforms and dresses to perform traditional dances at the third annual Victory Waltz — a heartfelt tribute held in the lead-up to Russia’s Victory Day.
The event, attended by approximately 400 participants, unfolded in front of a replica of the Order of Victory, the highest military decoration of the Soviet Union during World War II. The historic setting — the gates of the Exhibition of Achievements of National Economy (VDNKh) — provided a symbolic backdrop for the waltz, echoing Russia’s enduring reverence for its wartime sacrifices.
A select group of non-combatant war survivors were seated among the audience, many visibly moved as they watched younger generations revive the music and attire of their era. Students swirled to old Soviet melodies, honoring the memory of those who fought in what remains one of the most defining chapters of Russian history.
Organizers described the annual event as both a tribute and a bridge — connecting the resilience of the past with the promise of the future through art, remembrance, and national pride.
Victory Day, which falls on May 9, marks the Soviet Union’s triumph over Nazi Germany in 1945 and remains one of the most significant holidays in Russia.
