The General Secretary of the Confederation of African Football, Véron Mosengo-Omba, has stepped down from his role after five years at the helm of African football administration.
The Swiss-Congolese official, who assumed the position in 2021 after leaving FIFA, announced his resignation on Sunday, citing a desire to focus on personal projects.
Mosengo-Omba stated that his departure comes after clearing allegations of financial wrongdoing, following a decision by Swiss prosecutors earlier in 2025 to discontinue investigations due to a lack of evidence. He said he was leaving the organization “with peace of mind,” adding that CAF had grown stronger during his tenure.
The Nigerian Football Federation confirmed that Samson Adamu will serve as acting general secretary pending a permanent appointment.
Mosengo-Omba, a long-time associate of FIFA President Gianni Infantino, had previously worked within European football structures before transitioning to global and African football leadership roles.
Meanwhile, CAF President Patrice Motsepe reaffirmed that the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations will proceed as planned in Morocco. The tournament, initially scheduled for March, was postponed and is now set to take place from July 25 to August 16.
The leadership transition comes at a critical time for CAF as it continues efforts to strengthen governance and expand the profile of African football on the global stage.
