Israel’s Defense Minister Israel Katz issued a stark warning today, declaring that the military campaign in Gaza is entering a new and more aggressive phase.
Katz said that an evacuation notice has been delivered to a high-rise building in Gaza City identified by Israeli authorities as a Hamas “terror facility.” He stressed that this marks the beginning of escalated strikes, signaling a shift in the ongoing war.
“Now the bar has been removed from the gates of hell in Gaza,” Katz stated. “Once the door is opened, it will not be closed, and the IDF’s operations will intensify until Hamas’s murderers and rapists accept Israel’s terms for ending the war, foremost the release of all hostages and disarmament or be destroyed.”
The statement follows nearly a year of conflict that began with Hamas’s Oct. 7, 2023 attacks on southern Israel, which killed more than 1,200 people and led to the abduction of hostages. Since then, Israel has carried out widespread military operations in Gaza, leading to a humanitarian crisis marked by mass displacement and civilian casualties.
Analysts say Katz’s remarks reflect Israel’s determination to pressure Hamas into accepting a deal for the release of hostages and complete disarmament, conditions Israeli officials have consistently presented as prerequisites for ending the war.
The situation in Gaza remains tense as residents brace for intensified airstrikes and expanded military action.
