Intelligence authorities across Europe have dismantled what officials describe as a covert Hamas network operating within Austria and Germany, following a joint operation led by Israel’s Mossad with support from multiple European security agencies.
According to security briefings shared with regional partners, the cells had been stockpiling weapons and preparing attacks targeting Jewish and Israeli communities on European soil. Several suspects were detained in coordinated raids, including the son of senior Hamas figure Bassem Naim, who was arrested in Vienna after investigators uncovered firearms and explosive materials reportedly hidden in residential locations.
Initial assessments suggest that directives to the network originated from Hamas leadership based in Qatar. European officials say the findings reinforce growing concerns that the group’s activities extend well beyond the Middle East.
Security analysts note that the operation marks one of the most significant counterterrorism actions involving Hamas infrastructure in Europe in recent years, signaling heightened vigilance across EU member states.
Authorities in both Austria and Germany have increased protective measures around Jewish institutions as investigations continue.
