The Volta Regional Police Command has intercepted over GH¢1 million in concealed cash aboard a commercial vehicle during a snap operation at the Juapong Checkpoint.
In an official statement signed by DSP Felix Danku of the Command’s Public Affairs Unit, the bust occurred on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at approximately 4:45 p.m. The operation was carried out following actionable intelligence.
Officers stopped a Ford Transit bus en route to Kumasi in the Ashanti Region. Upon conducting a meticulous search, they uncovered 68 fertiliser bags packed with GH¢1,021,700, mostly in one-cedi notes and coins.
The driver, identified as Edward Ansah, told investigators that he was contracted by an unidentified individual in Kumasi to transport the cash from Ho, the Volta Regional capital. He is currently in police custody and assisting with ongoing investigations.
Authorities are treating the incident as a matter of national concern, considering the large amount and the suspicious method of transport.
“Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses,” the police assured in the statement.
It remains unclear whether the money is linked to criminal activity, unregistered financial operations, or money laundering. The police are yet to disclose the origin and intended use of the funds.
The Volta Regional Command has urged the public to remain calm as it intensifies efforts to unravel the full details behind the unusual transport of such a substantial amount of cash.
