Facebook Ireland says it has put aside \u20ac302m for possible fines from the Irish Data Protection Commissioner.<\/p>\n

T<\/span>he tech giant says that the \u20ac302m relates to “amounts identified for administrative fines arising from various regulatory compliance matters principally under investigation by the relevant data protection supervisory authorities”.<\/p>\n

Facebook is currently being probed in more than 10 separate statutory inquiries by Helen Dixon’s office, spanning issues across its separate divisions: Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp.<\/p>\n

Facebook also says that its revenue grew by \u20ac8.8bn last year, up to \u20ac34.3bn in 2019 from \u20ac25.5bn in 2018.<\/p>\n

The company recorded a profit increase of 33pc to \u20ac481.88m in 2019 from \u20ac361.3m in 2018, according to the company’s accounts.<\/p>\n

Its corporate tax liability for the year was \u20ac173.2m, which included a \u20ac53m exceptional tax “agreement with authorities to resolve certain tax matters relating to prior tax years”, according to the company. Facebook Ireland expects the regulatory matters to be resolved over the next two financial years.<\/p>\n

The revenues generated by Facebook Ireland last year account for 59pc of the social media firm’s global revenues of $70.6bn in 2019.<\/p>\n

The workforce at Facebook Ireland last year increased by 614 to 1,944 – a rise of 46pc.<\/p>\n

Last year, the company paid out \u20ac201m in salaries – equating to an average salary of \u20ac103,443.<\/p>\n

That doesn’t include \u20ac58.49m in share-based payments and \u20ac34m in other benefits to employees.<\/p>\n

Facebook Ireland’s staff here are made up of sales and marketing (740), community operations (512), administration (448) and engineering (244).<\/p>\n

Directors’ pay increased to \u20ac1.3m from \u20ac706,000 as three new members joined the board in 2019.<\/p>\n

On the impact of Covid-19, the directors said it has continued business operations with limited disruption and remained engaged in performing its principal activities.<\/p>\n

At the end of 2019, Facebook Ireland’s shareholder funds totaled \u20ac2.23bn, that included accumulated profits of \u20ac1bn.<\/p>\n
