Israel has appointed Major General Roman Gofman as the new director of the Mossad, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declaring that the intelligence agency will remain at the forefront of efforts to counter Iranian influence and prevent Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons.<\/p>\n
The change of command ceremony was held at Mossad headquarters in the presence of senior government officials, military leaders, security chiefs and intelligence personnel. Gofman succeeds David Barnea, who led the agency through a period marked by heightened regional tensions and intelligence operations.<\/p>\n
Addressing the gathering, Netanyahu praised Gofman\u2019s leadership qualities and experience, describing him as a strategic thinker with a strong commitment to achieving national security objectives.<\/p>\n
\u201cRoman, you have overcome all obstacles, and you are being appointed as Israel\u2019s 14th Director of the Mossad. Go forth and succeed,\u201d Netanyahu said.<\/p>\n
The Israeli leader reaffirmed his government’s position on Iran, stating that Israel would continue efforts to prevent the Iranian regime from developing nuclear weapons or posing what he described as an existential threat to the country.<\/p>\n
Gofman, who most recently served as Military Secretary to the Prime Minister, thanked outgoing director David Barnea and pledged to build on the agency\u2019s achievements.<\/p>\n

He said recent developments had altered the balance of power across the Middle East, but stressed that intelligence operations would remain critical to addressing ongoing security challenges.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe work is not yet complete,\u201d Gofman said, adding that the agency would continue refining its capabilities and methods to maintain its operational edge.<\/p>\n
Outgoing Mossad Director David Barnea praised the agency\u2019s officers and staff for their resilience and determination in carrying out complex missions.<\/p>\n
\u201cYour excellence is tested precisely at the point where others choose to retreat,\u201d Barnea said. \u201cFacing every wall and every doubt, you stand and say in a clear voice: \u2018We can surely overcome it.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
Gofman assumes leadership of the Mossad after approximately 31 years of military service. During his career, he held several senior command positions, including Commander of the Etzion Brigade, Commander of the 7th Armored Brigade, Commander of the 210th Division and Commander of the National Center for Ground Training.<\/p>\n
