The Republic of Congo has awarded French oil giant TotalEnergies a permit to explore a new offshore block, marking a significant step in the country\u2019s efforts to expand its oil production.<\/p>\n
According to the company, its Congolese subsidiary will operate the Nzombo block with a 50 percent stake. QatarEnergy will hold 35 percent, while Congo\u2019s state-owned Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 Nationale des P\u00e9troles du Congo (SNPC) will control the remaining share.<\/p>\n
The Nzombo exploration zone, spanning 1,000 square kilometers, lies about 100 kilometers off Pointe-Noire on the Atlantic Ocean. TotalEnergies confirmed that drilling of the first exploration well is scheduled to begin before the end of 2025.<\/p>\n
The company currently produces around 65,000 barrels of oil per day in the Republic of Congo. Official data shows that from January to July 2025, Congo produced 56.9 million barrels, averaging 268,000 barrels per day \u2014 a 5.2 percent increase compared to the same period last year.<\/p>\n
