The European Union (EU) has reaffirmed its commitment to combating racism and discrimination worldwide, marking the 60th anniversary of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination.<\/p>\n
In a statement issued on behalf of the EU, the High Representative highlighted that racism remains a major barrier to justice, equality, and full societal participation, despite global efforts over the past six decades. The representative called for renewed action to uphold the Convention and ensure its full implementation worldwide.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe persistence of discrimination and its profound impact on individuals and societies demands political will, stronger enforcement of existing laws, and a collective commitment to change,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n
As part of its efforts, the EU has strengthened national anti-racism strategies, increased funding for initiatives, and improved data collection under the EU Anti-Racism Action Plan (2020-2025). A new comprehensive anti-racism strategy is set to be presented by the European Commission later this year to further accelerate progress.<\/p>\n
The EU emphasized its dedication to addressing both overt and structural racism within its member states and globally.
